Joshua Tree National Park is situated in the Southern California Desert. The park protects two distinct desert ecosystems at different altitudes by encompassing nearly 800,000 acres of the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The park gets its name from the unique Joshua Tree, a tall-growing variation of the yucca genus that grows abundantly within its borders. One of the greatest U2 albums ever, released in 1987 was named The Joshua Tree, and its cover featured evocative black-and-white photography of the Park’s landscape and distinctive trees.

Big Sur is a coastal town on California’s Central Coast. It stretches for 90 miles along the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline and is home to abundant wildlife and breathtaking scenery. The area is ideal for a variety of recreational activities, with numerous state parks and hiking trails to explore. A large number of Big Sur visitors not only enjoy driving around but also take a hike, as backpacking is one of the most popular activities in the area.

As Alanis Morissette once neatly put:

‘’Me and Anaïs and Henry and Jack Kerouac
Me and the Ohlone, the Esselen, the Salinan
Me and Julia, Helmuth and Brautigan
All roads lead to Big Sur
All roads home to Big Sur’’

Big Sur was home to many famous people and is a must-see California destination.

The Sunshine State has so much more to offer, and this is just one possible itinerary of many to follow and also a try to depict the state’s diverse beauty.
