Upcoming Musical Events in San Diego 2021

The pandemic changed the world in a storm, with many of the year’s biggest events being postponed or canceled to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus. Now, with a large population already vaccinated, things are starting to get back on track, with more events in San Diego coming up.

San Diego events in 2021 have made a comeback, although slightly different from what you’re used to. Concerts, live performances, musical events, and festivals still remain a high-risk, which is why authorities recommend that even vaccinated individuals continue to wear face masks and follow social distancing protocols set by the CDC to reduce the spread of the latest variant of the coronavirus.

After a season of lockdowns in 2020, audiences, musicians, and organizers, as well as many of the communities that stage the major concerts, are eager to return to the scene. Large music festivals now appear to be an unstoppable movement and, according to health experts, a preventable risk.

That being said, there are numerous musical events and concerts in San Diego in 2021, should you be interested in attending one responsibly.

Baja Beach Fest – From August 13th to 15th, and August 20th to 22nd

Along with other events in San Diego, the Baja Beach Fest was postponed as a result of the pandemic. The open-air festival features reggaeton and Latin trap music, staring performers Ozuna, Karol G, and J Balvin this year.

The performers, production personnel, and the attendees must abide by social distancing protocols, wear masks, and provide proof of vaccination before attending the event. Moreover, ticketholders who test positive for COVID-19 will not be allowed to attend the event. For this purpose, in the days leading up to the opening of the festival, COVID-19 testing facilities for the Baja Beach Fest will be open in Tijuana and Rosarito for last-minute testing.

Proof of immunization must be submitted through the festival’s portal to enforce compliance and allow participants to access their festival wristbands. The festival’s opening weekend, August 13th to 15th, is already sold out, and 85 percent of the passes for the following weekend have also been booked, according to the festival’s website.

Luke Bryan’s Tour: “Proud to be Right Here” – On September 23rd

As this tour was halted due to the worldwide pandemic, Bryan’s fans have remained loyal and helped to propel several songs off the album to No. 1 – notably “What She Wants Tonight,” “One Margarita,” “Knockin’ Boots,” and “Down To One” — the majority of which Bryan has yet to perform live.

His tour-concluding performance will take place at San Diego’s largest outdoor concert venue, the Chula Vista amphitheater. Runaway June and Dylan Scoot will be opening the show.
