The director Emma Cooper uses previously unheard conversations with members of Marilyn Monroe’s personal circle to help unravel the mystery surrounding her death.

The Unheard Tapes builds on conspiracy ideas regarding Monroe’s relationship with the Kennedy men and the way she made federal agents anxious by being such a leftist. 

Both the administration and the public media had no idea how to speak to her or discuss subjects with her that went beyond the superficial, such as children or her appearance, not to mention topics regarding mental health.
